Macbook 12" Retina (Early 2015) - USB C Issues

Hi everyone,

Has anyone else had a problem with their USB-C port on the first iteration of the 12" Retina Macbook?

My MacBook doesn't work with the Apple USB-C to normal USB dongle that I just purchased from the Apple Store in order to connect my iPhone/ScanSnap to my MacBook.

I took the dongle back to the Apple Store today and exchanged it but I asked the customer service person to test it with something and when we tried to connect it to a USB lightning cable it wouldn't charge or connect to an iPhone - so the cable didn't seem to be the problem - which leads me to believe that the USB-C port on the laptop is broken.

Typically I am outside of the one-year warranty, so I would probably have to pay to get the MacBook checked.

Any ideas if this could be some sort of software problem? I'm running OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan.

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
